From a Syrian refugee who embodies Caliban when no one's around to a man who uses magic to conjure his dead wife, and from a teenage skater suffering from unrequited love to a writer desperate for inspiration, the characters in these films aspire to greatness or at least, a chance to surpass their condition. Jealousy, betrayal, the supernatural and more – these stories are proof of the everlasting legacy of Shakespearean themes.
